Arriving in Jilin City in the cold winter, people will see the trees covered with white frost and snow. The spectacle is quite pageantry and is known as the famous wonder of "Ice-rimmed Trees."

Trees are covered with glassy hoar frost, known as Wusong rime. The Ice-rimmed Trees is the ice crystal that forms when fog and water vapor meet the cold air. After the ice crystal is formed on the surface of the trees, the trees all became white. This spectacle can only be seen beside the Songhua River in Jilin city, northeast China's Jilin Province, because of the unique geographical condition and natural environment.

As a unique natural phenomenon in Jilin in the winter, Wusong emerges on trees when the steaming vapor from the Songhua River hits the freezing air which could be about minus thirty degrees centigrade.

The marvelous scenery shows in the winter. When winter approaches, branches of the willow trees were covered with glitter ice. With the sun shining, the whole tree looks like a crystal statue.

There is a legend about the soft rime. It is said that a widowed woman lived at the bank of Songhua River with her three daughters. She worked hard from dawn to dark in order to raise her three daughters. When the three daughters got married, neither of them was willing to take care of their mother. Once, when the old mother was on her way to her youngest daughter's home, thinking of her child's unkind behavior, she became more and more sad. Her white hair and tears were flying with the wind, and finally congealed ices on the trees.
